Basement Water Damage Warning Signs

  • Mold and/or Mildew - Fungus that grows in damp, dark areas causes discoloration, musty smells and odors.
  • Damp Spots on Walls - Sign that water has absorbed through the wall. Dark grey splotches will appear in various places.
  • Cracked Walls - Sign that foundation has moved or shifted. Should be inspected in order to determine the exact cause.
  • Peeling Paint - Sign that the wall has taken moisture inside, as paint will not stick to a wet or deteriorating surface.
  • Dry Rot - Dark brown/black fungus. Grows on walls and other surfaces. Grows mostly on wooden surfaces, causing wood to decay.
  • Warped Paneling - Moisture will cause paneling to bow and discolor, commonly seen on the bottom portion of the paneling.

Exterior Water Management

Completion exterior water management system consists of installing a membrame or sheeting to the outside of the foundation. This system diverts the water down the wall and to a French Drain that leads the water out into the yard and away from the house.

Interior Water Management System

The Interior Water Management System takes the approach from inside of the basement. In this basement system a sump pump is installed in order to pump any water that that has entered the basement out.
